Dear Friends, Colleagues and Family,

We want to share great news! We started Learning Steps, a non-profit that addresses learning needs in our community. With your generous support, many children, families, and individuals, who could not previously access our services will now have an opportunity to benefit from our team of developmental specialists. Here are some of our exceptional programs that will now be accessible through your generous giving:

  • Infant/Toddler Program
  • Special Education Preschool, Kindergarten, & Early Elementary
  • Arrowsmith Program

Skillful staff with advanced education, small class sizes with low student to teacher ratios, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Behavior Therapists are essential for transforming the learning experiences for those in our programs. Your kind donation today allows us the opportunity to continue providing programs for our community.

Associated Learning & Language Specialists, Inc., a San Francisco Bay Area resource for over 30 years, provides quality early intervention and school-aged services. Through exceptional evaluation, therapy, and educational services, we enable our students to overcome their unique challenges, and gain skills and confidence. Our trans-disciplinary team, including early infant educators, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior therapists, certified Arrowsmith teachers and California credentialed teachers collaborate with the family to create an individualized intervention plan for your child.

We offer multi-disciplinary services including:

Our approach accelerates your child’s learning rate and renders services far more effectively than a compartmentalized approach. A cornerstone of our philosophy is that an individual's developmental needs do not exist in isolation. Diagnosis and therapy must occur with an understanding of the entire spectrum of the individual's abilities, as well as his or her family, school or work environment.

The Arrowsmith Program®

The Arrowsmith Program® was authored by Barbara Arrowsmith Young of Toronto. Over the last 30 years, her cognitive remediation program has provided support for thousands of children with learning disabilities.

ALLS is the pioneer in California with this program, which has been used successfully since 1978. The Arrowsmith Program® comprises a suite of individualized cognitive exercises for students with learning disabilities, developed from extensive research in the fields of neuroscience and neuroplasticity. Each cognitive exercise has multiple levels of difficulty and is designed to address a specific area of cognitive functioning. The Arrowsmith Program® deals with root causes of the learning disability rather than managing the symptoms.  Students become effective learners, which often increases confidence, as the positive brain changes are life-long. Follow-up studies have shown that the outcomes of students participating in the Arrowsmith Program®, after 30 years of completing the program, resulted in permanent changes to the brain without regression in learning abilities. We are proud to be offering The Arrowsmith Program® at our San Mateo Cognitive Center. Learn More

At ALLS, staff regularly receive training on topics such as clinical vs. educationally related recommendations and IEP etiquette. Learn More
